A very unusual travelling cobbler’s bench, the top part made probably of Elm, with two cast iron shoe lasts secured into the wood, one for adult shoes, one child’s size.

The Elm top shows an amazing level of wear: cuts, holes, and grain raised from decades of exposure to the elements.

The legs which are removable for easy transportation, are of ash, possibly later in date than the bench top, but still of some real age. The bench once assembled comes upto a good waist height, allowing for the cobbler to easily work.

Date and origin unknown, but the top would date to mid Nineteenth century, the legs around the turn of the century.
